KATHERINE LYALL-WATSON
Co-Artistic Director & Writer

Katherine is a Meanjin-based artist and an award-winning Australian playwright. She is the author of four published plays (Boy, Lost - winner of the 2022 Lord Mayor’s Award for Best Australian New Work, Motherland, Rovers and Hanako) and holds a doctorate in creative writing from the University of Queensland. Katherine was an Artistic Associate at Queensland Theatre Company in 2015 and the chair of Playlab Theatre for five years. She regularly mentors and supports emerging writers, is a beekeeper and a CoralWatch Ambassador and has had her plays performed in Australia and Japan. Katherine is passionate about writing, social justice and the environment. She recently collaborated with Belgian artist Alexandra Cool on an art book containing Katherine’s poetry and Alexandra’s photography and painting. Parilanjarvi - blanketed and still was published in Europe in March, 2023.

JESSICA VEURMAN

Jessica has a Dip Teach (Drama), BA (Drama) from QUT and a Research Masters with Griffith University. She works consistently as an actor and has taught Drama at Griffith University for over 25 years. Jessica has also worked in a range of administrative and management roles with a variety of arts events and festivals.  During her time at Griffith University Jessica developed and directed several Applied Theatre projects, using drama and theatre to empower and educate participants. Jessica received a Matilda Award for acting in 2007 and gained nominations in 2011 and 2018.

CAROLINE DUNPHY 
Co-Artistic Director, Director & Performer

Caroline has worked over the past 28 years as an actor, director, theatre maker and trainer/educator. She holds a repertoire of original theatre works dedicated to interdisciplinary and transcultural performance, and new Australian stories with independent and major organisations in contemporary theatre, drama, cabaret and comedy. Caroline was on the board of Queensland Theatre from 2003 to 2006, has taught at universities nationally (most recently the QUT Acting Program), is currently an associate artist at NORPA (NSW), and with Belloo Creative, company in residence with Queensland Theatre. Caroline worked in avant-garde theatre for 15 years both in Australia and Japan as a senior company member of Frank Theatre (Ozfrank) until 2010. Her specialised area is predominately in the Suzuki-inspired method Frank Suzuki Performance Aesthetics (FSPA) based on the theatrical discipline of the classic Suzuki Actor Training Method (SATM). Caroline has appeared on Australian and British television and acted with a range of theatre companies nationally.

Emily Coleman

EMILY COLEMAN

Emily is a Bundjalung-Githabul multidisciplinary creative artist from a long line of storytellers. She was the Associate Producer for Theatre Network Australia’s 2023 APAF and the former Artistic Director & Creative Producer of Digi Youth Arts (2019-2022). Emily is a QUT BFA (Drama) graduate and has worked across a variety of roles including touring actor, writer/dramaturg, community engagement coordinator, theatre-maker, producer, youth engagement facilitator, and designer. Emily’s role with Belloo is supported by the Queensland Government through Arts Queensland.

KATHRYN KELLY 
Chair

Kathryn is a dramaturg and theatre historian and a Lecturer at QUT in the Drama area in the Faculty of Creative Industries. Her research interests include dramaturgy and socially engaged, feminist and transcultural performance practices. Kathryn has worked for every major festival and theatre company in Queensland; nationally for Theatreworks (Melbourne); Malthouse (Melbourne); Playwriting Australia (Sydney) and the Darwin Writers Centre and internationally for the Factory Theatre and Cahoots Theatre Projects in Toronto, Canada. Kathryn was CEO of Playlab (2004-2008), Australia’s second largest theatrical publisher, and Resident Artist for World Interplay, which was the largest festival for young playwrights in the world. She has also worked for Arts Queensland and other arts organisations in her 25 years in the performance sector.


DEE RENNIE 
Board Member

Dee is the Head of Impact and Engagement at Poetry in Action, and has previously held arts philanthropic advisory and funding positions at Queensland Theatre, Queensland Music Festival, Queensland College of Art, Griffith Film School, Contemporary Australian Indigenous Art program, Griffith University and global medical research and patient initiatives at RBWH Foundation and QIMR Berghofer. Her broad experience across the NFP sector has shaped a profound commitment to creative and community-focused organisations, and reflects a dedication to inspiring transformative goals in community development.

At the core of Dee’s drive is a commitment to encouraging community engagement, fostering an environment that enriches lives and promotes civic participation. She specialises in crafting engagement concepts that connect supporters with projects, making a meaningful difference.

GLEN PLAYER 
Treasurer

Glen has ten years of experience working within arts-related financial analysis and administration, and has been a passionate advocate for the arts for much longer. He is the Treasurer of the non-profits Playlab Inc (devoted to developing, presenting and publishing playwrights) and Supercell Inc (a new festival of contemporary dance to hit Queensland next year). Previously he has worked at Positive Solutions, La Boite Theatre, and Brisbane Festival in finance and business operations roles.

KELLY McKELLAR-NATHAN
Board Member

Kelly is a proud Kooma and Kunja woman who made the Queensland and Australian softball teams from 1989 to 2000 and was awarded an Australian Sports Medal for her dedication to sport in 2001. Kelly is now the Team Leader of Brisbane City Council’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Team and has strong skills in Management, Analytical Skills, Coaching, Government, Information Technology and Strategic Planning. She has a Bachelor of Arts focused in Parks, Recreation and Leisure Studies from Griffith University. Kelly is passionate about strengthening relationships and connections with Brisbane’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and providing opportunities for them to engage in shaping the life of the city.


MEL STOREY
Board Member

Mel is an experienced corporate lawyer with a passion for growing Brisbane born and bred companies. She is currently working for Megaport, a global technology company founded in Brisbane and now in the ASX200. She has worked across multiple industries such as aviation, infrastructure, financial services and cloud computing. Mel has previously been awarded the Lawyers Weekly Corporate Counsel 30 Under 30 Award and the Global Modern Counsel 35 Under 35 Award. She has served as a Member of the Queensland Law Society's In-House Committee and as the In-House Advisor to the Women Lawyers Association Queensland. She is also a founding Board Member of the Centre for Legal Innovation’s Emerging Leaders Advisory Board. Mel has a lifelong love of the creative arts, especially musical theatre. She finds ways to incorporate creativity into her legal life and during the first COVID-19 lockdown, she launched her passion project, "Counsel", a podcast about corporate lawyer life. The podcast now reaches an audience in over 25 countries and has been downloaded more than 100,000 times. She is a passionate advocate for her profession and shares career insights for law students and graduates on Instagram and TikTok under the moniker @theinhouselawyer.

KRISTEN MALONEY
Secretary

Kristen is an independent director and producer based in Brisbane. She has a demonstrated history of working in Brisbane, regional Queensland and interstate to create contemporary works. Kristen's diverse works include performance, participatory theatre, large-scale community engagement projects as well as digital performance with a particular focus on augmented reality (AR). In addition, Kristen is an early career scholar, and her research and project interests include the relationship between emerging digital technologies (such as augmented reality, virtual reality and holograms) and live performance as well as women in digital performance.

ROSEMARY HINDE 
Board Member

Rosemary is an International Arts Development Consultant with a focus in Asia. Rosemary has lived and worked as a presenter, producer, agent and consultant in: Australia,  the U.K., Japan and Hong Kong and has toured and presented productions throughout Asia. She has worked with government (most recently as International Development Manager North Asia at the Australia Council for the Arts) , the commercial sector - including marketing and advertising agencies in North Asia and not-for -profit sectors (including for major, four year funded and independent companies and artists)  and across multiple artforms. She has a Master of International Business from University of Melbourne (specialising in North Asia).
