SCOT

SCOT

A beautiful escape into the mountains of Japan for the Toga Festival 40th Anniversary complete with 3 shows a day including young director’s works as well as SCOT performances under the direction and festival artistic direction of Tadashi Suzuki.

It was an honour for us to be invited at this time when Japan is still under restricted entry and we quickly had to assemble ourselves for the whirlwind trip including fast tracked visa preparations, rural stay, full time mask wearing, rigorous hand sanitising and temperature taking procedures.

Caroline’s history participating and attending the Summer Season dates back to 1998 as an actor with Brisbane company Frank Theatre and this marks her 10th visit to Toga after attending the Theatre Olympics (held in Russia and Japan) in 2019.

“It’s a very special place where I learnt the potential and possibilities as an actor and practising artist as well as the dedication to ensemble work and long term processes. I was given an enormous opportunity in the 15 years I was a company member and to this day, I am still inspired by all that I learnt and very much feel it’s relevance - whilst continuing to have close company friendships and visit people I have known for close to 25 years”.

The trip wasn’t complete without a special catch up with our Australian and Japanese past and future collaborators in the final days in Tokyo.

Thank you to all those who made it possible for us to journey at this time.
