Support Services & Ways to Take Action

The Nadesalingam family’s return to Biloela is a story of love, resilience, and community persistence — but it is not the end of the story.

Right now, more than 7,500 people who arrived in Australia between 2012–2013 remain barred from applying for permanent visas. For over a decade, they’ve been living in limbo on bridging visas that expire every 3–6 months. This means constant paperwork, uncertainty about their future, and separation from family members who cannot join them.

Behind every number is a person — a neighbour, colleague, friend — building their life in Australia without the safety and stability of permanent residency.

How you can help

Change is possible when communities speak out. Here are some ways you can take action:

  • Learn more about the current visa system and its impact.

  • Sign petitions calling for permanent protection and fairness.

  • Support refugee organisations providing essential services and advocacy.

  • Join community campaigns that amplify voices often left unheard.

Take the next step

We encourage you to explore the resources on the Belloo website, connect with organisations doing this important work, and add your voice to the call for justice.

Together, we can continue building the momentum that brought the Nadesalingam family home — and ensure others still waiting can find the same safety and belonging.
