Belloo Has Been on the Move

Belloo has been on the move — travelling, creating, and connecting across borders.

Producer Kristen Maloney recently attended the Performing Arts Market in Seoul (PAMS) before beginning a three-month Producer Fellowship in Taiwan, supported by the Lord Mayor’s Creative Fellowships, an initiative of Brisbane City Council, and The Ian Potter Cultural Trust Emerging Artist Grants.

“The fellowship focuses on discovering new models of touring, connection, and collaboration between Australia and the Asia–Pacific — not only for Belloo, but for other small-to-medium arts organisations navigating a rapidly changing global landscape. What worked pre-COVID, or for larger institutions, no longer fits companies like ours. Through research, conversations, and exchange across Taiwan and the wider region, I’m exploring what sustainable, artist-led touring can look like in the future.”
Kristen Maloney, Producer

From Seoul’s buzzing markets to Taipei’s creative studios, these travels are all about reimagining how performance can move — across borders, communities, and cultures.

Meanwhile, back in Australia, Chair & Dramaturg Kathryn Kelly and Co-Artistic Director Caroline Dunphy travelled to Cairns to join JUTE Theatre Company for 4 on the Floor. Thousands of script pages, big ideas, and plenty of teamwork filled the rehearsal rooms as playwrights, directors, actors, and dramaturgs came together to shape four brand-new stories.

“Connecting with artists and communities across Queensland is at the heart of what Belloo does. Every time we travel, whether it’s to Cairns, the regions, or beyond Australia, we’re reminded how much creativity thrives through exchange. Mentorship has become central to that, because it’s never just about sharing what we know; it’s about listening, learning, and building lasting relationships with the next generation of storytellers.”
Caroline Dunphy, Co-Artistic Director

As the year draws to a close, Belloo continues to look outward, building bridges between artists, communities, and audiences across Australia and the Asia–Pacific. From Cairns to Seoul to Taipei, these journeys reflect our belief that art grows strongest through connection, curiosity, and care.
